Position Summary
We are seeking reliable and safety-conscious Class 1 Truck Drivers to join our transportation team. This commercial driving position involves operating tractor-trailer equipment to transport goods and materials across various locations. Training will be provided for qualified candidates who possess the required licensing and demonstrate commitment to professional driving standards.
Primary Job Responsibilities
Driving & Transportation Operations
Vehicle Operation
- Operate Class 1 commercial tractor-trailer equipment safely and efficiently
- Drive articulated trucks and straight trucks for goods transportation
- Navigate mountain terrain with expertise and caution
- Transport materials across provincial and territorial routes
- Execute short-haul delivery assignments
- Operate specialized lighter-purpose commercial vehicles when required
Route Management
- Plan and execute efficient delivery routes
- Navigate using GPS and modern navigation equipment systems
- Communicate with central dispatch regarding trip status and updates
- Report location and progress using onboard communication systems
- Adjust routes based on traffic, weather, and road conditions
Loading & Cargo Management
Freight Handling
- Load goods and materials onto transport vehicles
- Unload freight at designated delivery locations
- Secure cargo using proper tarping techniques
- Ensure safety and security of transported goods throughout transit
- Handle freight weighing up to 23 kg (50 lbs) regularly
- Manage heavy loads with proper lifting techniques
Vehicle Maintenance & Safety
Preventive Maintenance
- Perform routine preventive maintenance on assigned vehicles
- Conduct brake adjustments and inspections
- Execute emergency roadside repairs when necessary
- Identify and report mechanical issues promptly
- Maintain vehicle cleanliness and operational readiness
Safety Inspections
- Complete pre-trip vehicle inspections thoroughly
- Perform en-route safety checks as required
- Conduct post-trip inspections and reporting
- Ensure compliance with all transportation safety regulations
- Verify proper functioning of all vehicle systems
Documentation & Reporting
Required Documentation Management
- Maintain accurate driver logbooks and hours of service records
- Complete bills of lading for all shipments
- Document accident or incident reports when necessary
- Prepare inspection reports (pre-trip, en-route, post-trip)
- Submit maintenance and repair documentation
- File comprehensive trip reports
- Keep detailed records for regulatory compliance
Communication & Coordination
Dispatch Communication
- Receive and relay critical information to central dispatch
- Utilize Citizens Band (CB) radio for road communication
- Operate trip recorder and onboard computer systems
- Provide timely updates on delivery status
- Report delays, incidents, or route changes immediately
Mandatory Credentials & Licensing
Required Certifications
- Class 1 Driver’s License (or Class A equivalent) – MANDATORY
- Air Brakes Endorsement – REQUIRED
- Air Brake Z Endorsement – REQUIRED
- Valid Driver’s License in good standing
- Clean Driving Record Abstract (driving record check required)
